Maple leaf doorknocker
The original master was hand carved and reproduced in wax. This wax pattern was coated in a ceramic slurry and once dried, the wax is boiled out of the shell mold. The ceramic mold is then fired in the kiln at 1600 degrees F. This mold is pulled out of the kiln and immediately filled with molten bronze. The castings are cleaned and finished with a torch application of compounds that produce the patina in a variety of colors. The patina finish is sealed with a lacquer and then a coating of hard wax.
